Blepharoplasty removes or repositions excess skin, muscle, and fat around the upper and/or lower eyelids, softening a tired or heavy-lidded appearance.

Upper and lower eyelid surgery are planned somewhat differently: upper blepharoplasty mainly addresses excess skin (and sometimes fat), while lower eyelid surgery deals more with fat pockets, puffiness, and skin laxity, and may involve an incision just inside the lower lid rather than on visible skin, depending on what needs correcting.
